History
The colour Dutch Orange™ has a special history. The colour orange is named after William of Orange, the first stadtholder of the Netherlands. Although the colour had existed for some time, it was only used in the 17th century as a symbol of the stadtholder and the Dutch revolt against the Spanish rule. It has been the national colour of the Netherlands since the establishment of the House of Oranje-Nassau in the 16th century. The colour is based on the family name of the members of the House of Oranje-Nassau. It is also the colour worn by the Princes and Princesses of the House of Oranje-Nassau on special occasions.
Dutch landscape
Dutch Orange™ can also be seen in the Dutch landscape. It is the colour of many a tulip field, the sky and the sea. Because Dutch Orange™ is the colour of the sky you see when the sun sets in the Netherlands, making it a symbolic colour for freedom, peace and happiness.
Holidays and sport
The colour Dutch Orange™ is also an important symbol of Dutch national identity. The colour is used on all kinds of national occasions, including King's Day (the bank holiday was always Queen's Day, which was changed back to King's Day), Liberation Day and various sports events. The colour Dutch Orange™ is also used by many companies as their colour brand. And of course Dutch Orange™ is the national colour of Dutch sports teams. Dutch Orange™ shirts with the Dutch coat of arms on the chest are a recognisable symbol of Dutch sports culture. Shirts in Dutch Orange™ are also worn by Dutch fans at sporting events, and those shirts are now available with Undiemeister® on the sleeve! During this holiday season, many Dutch people wear clothes in the colour orange, making it a special event for every Dutch family. Many Dutch people have a special connection with the colour orange and thus with Dutch Orange™.
