Undiemeister naar Triodos Bank en onze missie - Undiemeister

Undiemeister to Triodos Bank and our mission

Triodos Bank is a financial banking institution with a mission beyond that of most other banks. Triodos' way of thinking fits well with Undiemeister, because it looks at more than just financial criteria. Of course they are important, but also what you want to do to make the world a little better determines whether you fit together as a bank and a customer.

Triodos Bank is therefore selective when it comes to accepting new customers and wanted to know exactly what Undiemeister's mission is. We'd like to share it with you below.

Undiemeister's mission

Undiemeister's mission is to make the textile industry sustainable, from the inside out. Undiemeister does this by focusing on minimizing CO2 consumption, water use and toxin consumption. Textiles are the second most polluting industry in the world, contributing nearly 10% of global CO2 emissions, which amounts to 1.2 billion tons. If 1 ton of textile is produced, it produces a CO2 equivalent of 17 tons, compared to 3 tons for plastic. By 2050, the textile industry would account for 26% of the Paris Climate Accord CO2 cap if nothing changes.

CO2 is not the only problem

Consider also water consumption. Water, clean fresh water, is becoming one of the most scarce resources in the world, while clean water is needed everywhere. The textile industry consumes nearly 100 billion cubic meters of fresh water a year. A cotton T-shirt and jeans takes more than 10,000 liters of fresh water to make. In addition, textile production releases many toxic chemicals into the environment. Cotton is the biggest polluter, with nearly 70 train car loads of poison per year.

Sustainable raw materials

Undiemeister has its items made from sustainable raw materials, such as TENCEL™ and organic cotton. In the production by Lenzing of the TENCEL™ fibers (from cellulose), water and energy are maximally conserved and more than 95% of the resources used to make the fibers are recycled. The production is CO2 neutral. The raw materials (beech wood and eucalyptus wood) come from sustainably managed nurseries and forests. The fibers are biodegradable and highly dyeable (low environmental impact). Organic cotton is grown without agricultural poisons.

Premium product quality

The fibers and production of sustainable textiles such as those used by Undiemeister are more expensive. This means that Undiemeister has chosen premium product quality (proprietary registered Mellowood fabric composition, superior workmanship and sizing, authentic natural colors, etc.) with ditto positioning. Only by offering the best in men's underwear do Undiemeisters customers get value for money. Of course, this only works if Undiemeister's items are sold in large numbers. This is why a media intensive campaign was chosen.

Measurability

In terms of measurability, Undiemeister opted for the comparison with conventional cotton because it is the most widely used worldwide. Undiemeister measures its sustainability contribution by comparing the number of products sold with the positive impact achieved if those numbers had been sold as cotton products. Every Undiemeister item sold is one less item of cotton sold.
