What is Mellowood?

Mellowood is a revolutionary fabric developed exclusively by Undiemeister. This patented blend consists of:

  • 68% TENCEL™ Modal
  • 28% organic cotton
  • 4% elastane

This combination offers the best of three worlds: silky luxury, breathability, perfect stretch and an eco-friendly footprint. Mellowood not only feels incredibly soft, it breathes with you, regulates your body temperature and stays fresh and colourfast for a long time.

The Mellowood mission: Stylish comfort, smartly chosen

At Undiemeister, we believe in clothing that works smart for your body, your skin and the planet. Mellowood is designed with a clear mission:

  • Seamless comfort: No chafing labels or seams. Only pure softness.
  • Colourfast & breathable: Your colours remain radiant, even after countless washes.
  • Temperature regulating: Cool in summer, warm in winter.
  • No inner tags: Anything unnecessary, we leave out.
  • Composed in Europe & maximally CO₂-neutral: Short lines, maximum sustainability.
  • Economical through Meister packages: Smart bundling for extra benefit.

Why TENCEL™ Modal?

The strength of Mellowood lies largely in the choice of TENCEL™ Modal, a fiber derived from beech wood from sustainably managed forests. TENCEL™ is known for:

  • Silky soft touch
  • High breathability
  • Efficient moisture management
  • Natural antibacterial properties

TENCEL™ Modal makes the fabric incredibly soft and allows your skin to breathe at all times, without retaining moisture or odours. Perfect for undergarments, socks and T-shirts you wear every day.

Why organic cotton?

Organic cotton is grown without chemical pesticides or fertilizers. The benefits:

  • Better for your skin (no chemical residues)
  • Less water consumption
  • Better working conditions for farmers
  • Longer product life span

In Mellowood organic cotton enhances the fabric's structure and contributes to a soft, natural feel.

Why elastane?

A touch of elastane (4%) gives Mellowood just that little bit of stretch for:

  • Perfect fit
  • Shape retention after frequent washing
  • Freedom of movement

Mellowood vs. bamboo and cotton

Bamboo and cotton are often presented as sustainable materials, but in practice both come with clear limitations. Bamboo textiles are usually processed into viscose using intensive chemical treatments, while conventional cotton is known for its high water consumption and extensive use of pesticides. Mellowood was developed as a considered alternative that offers a better balance between comfort, performance and sustainability.

Mellowood stands out in several key areas:

Feature Mellowood Bamboo viscose Conventional cotton
Fibre source TENCEL™ Modal from sustainably managed beechwood Bamboo, chemically processed into viscose Cotton plant, often intensively cultivated
Production process Closed-loop system with low environmental impact Open chemical process, not always controlled High water usage and pesticide dependency
Softness Silky-soft and consistently comfortable Soft, but loses structure more quickly Firm feel, less soft on the skin
Breathability High and consistent Moderate, absorbs moisture more readily Limited in warm conditions
Temperature regulation Excellent, suitable year-round Moderate Limited adaptability
Odour control Naturally antibacterial Limited effectiveness No natural odour control
Shape and colour retention Very high, even after repeated washing Prone to wear and deformation Loses fit more quickly over time

How is Mellowood maximally sustainable?

As mentioned, Mellowood is a combination between TENCEL™ Modal and organic cotton. TENCEL™ Modal is made by the Austrian company Lenzing, a global forerunner in sustainable textile production. Undiemeister starts with TENCEL™ Modal fibers, recycling 95% of the resources used to make the fabric. Mellowood consists of 68% TENCEL™ Modal, 28% organic cotton and 4% elastane.

A giant step in sustainability, especially when compared to cotton or bamboo viscose. With Lyocell, the recycling even goes to 100%. Production of all TENCEL™ materials (from cellulose) saves maximum water, energy and is maximally CO2-neutral. The raw materials of the natural fibers (beechwood in the case of Modal and eucalyptus in the case of Lyocell) come from sustainably managed nurseries and forests. The fibers are biodegradable and highly dyeable (low environmental impact). Organic cotton is grown without agricultural poisons. TENCEL™ fibers is a brand of Lenzing AG.

Lenzing has laboratory tested and certified Mellowood's unique blend. Mellowood is also registered as a trademark. This prevents unsustainably produced fabrics, or of inferior quality, from impersonating the original.

Patent on the most sustainable fabric

Mellowood is so special, that it was investigated whether a patent was possible on the special blend. Meanwhile, Mellowood is officially patented!
